Throughout the year Gordon Schanzlin New Vision Institute Institute supports our community in various efforts. We are pleased to have the opportunity to give back in the following ways in 2013.
The doctors and staff provided medical care and surgery through Project Access, the San Diego County Medical Society’s Foundation. This year several surgeries were donated by GWSVI to low-income, uninsured patients, so that they could receive the surgical care they needed but could not afford.
Project Access is dedicated to restoring patients’ ability to work, support loved ones and enjoy healthy lives while preventing the development of more serious medical conditions. Donated consultations, surgeries and procedures provided through their organization also helps reduce the strain on emergency rooms, where most Project Access patients would otherwise turn for care.
GWSVI is one of over 80 referring community clinics, more than 625 medical professionals, 10 hospitals, and 14 outpatient surgical centers throughout San Diego County that participate in Project Access. Over 1,700 patients have been served by the organization since late 2008 with more than 4,500 specialty medical appointments, 365 surgeries, and 85 diagnostic endoscopy procedures.
In addition, GWSVI supported the following service organizations:
- Downtown Lions Club
- Rady Children’s Hospital
- Jewish Family Service Heart & Soul Gala
- Sharp Foundation
- Rady Children’s Celebrating Futures
- Del Mar Rotary
- 10th Annual Law Enforcement “Volunteer of the Year Banquet” Exchange Club of San Diego
- American Diabetes Association “Walk to Defeat Diabetes”
- Rotary Club of La Mesa Sunrise Bowling
